Pre & Post Care Patient Instructions

If you are a first time patient or have had changes to your medical history, please be sure to complete a brief medical history and/or informed consent for procedure prior to your appointment.

INJECTABLES:

Neurotoxin & Dermal Filler

Pre-Treatment Instructions:

  • DON'T use alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, pain medications, Omega 3 fatty acids, or fish oil for 48-72 hours prior. (Alcoholic beverages 12 hours before or after your treatment can lead to extra bruising.)

  • DON'T wear makeup on the day of injections, if possible.

  • DON'T get neurotoxin injections if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • DO plan ahead and schedule injections for upcoming events or pictures at least 2 weeks prior to the event.

  • DO eat something prior to your appointment. Getting light headed is no fun for you (or us).

  • DO let us know if you have a history of cold sores around your mouth (or face) to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment. (Valtrex or Acyclovir 500 mg, twice a day for 1-2 days before and 3 days after treatment.)

  • DO let us know if have signs or symptoms of any active infection including colds, flu, UTIs or any other infective process.

Post-Treatment Instructions:

  • AVOID rubbing your face, putting your face in a face cradle for a massage, exercise, and hot saunas or baths for a minimum of 24-48 hours (or a minimum of 3 days with dermal filler).

  • AVOID vigorous exercise for 24 hours. Keep in mind your muscles may feel "heavy" post injections. Exercises like jumping jacks, planks, and yoga may exacerbate this feeling. It is best to stay upright when exercising (and sleeping) to avoid inflammation, discomfort, or adverse outcomes to your injections.

  • AVOID touching injection sites for the first 4 hours. Be gentle when washing your face and applying makeup for the first couple of days.

  • DO apply a cool compress if you have swelling for 15 minutes each hour.

  • DO use Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Advil (ibuprofen) for discomfort.

  • DO sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling. Sleeping face up will lessen the stress that you place on your face and the movement of the injectable material, which may cause visible asymmetry or permanent facial lines.

  • DO schedule a 2-week follow up. Additional units may be necessary for ideal results. Touch ups should not be made beyond the 21-day mark. If you feel you have more movement than you would like after day 21, increasing the dose at your next appointment may be appropriate. This is not considered a block failure, just that your muscles may require more. Please let your nurse know at the next appointment and we will adjust accordingly.

  • PLEASE KNOW! It takes 3-7 days for neurotoxins to start to work and peak at day 14. Neurotoxins are expected to last 3-4 months but know it is expected and normal that movement should begin to return around the 8-10 week mark and then the next treatment is necessary around week 12-16.

  • PLEASE KNOW! Dermal fillers last, on average, 6-12 months. It is recommended at the time of your treatment to schedule your next appointment for optimal anti-aging benefits. The most typical side effects (bruising, swelling, redness) are temporary and will resolve. Lumps and bumps are normal (especially with lip filler) and almost always resolve without intervention within 2-4 weeks. If after 4 weeks something is visible, we can schedule a time to be assessed.

Please call the office to notify us if you experience any additional side effects or if you notice bruising or pain is worsening, not improving as we would expect.

NUTRITIONAL THERAPY:

IV's & IM Boosts

Please know Side Effects are possible, they include:

  • Bruising at the site of injection

  • Rash

  • Dizziness

In general, most people feel very good after IV therapies. However, a few patients do feel worse after a session and may experience:

  • Headache

  • General Unwellness or Body aches

  • Diarrhea or Constipation

  • Sinus Congestion or Flu-Like Symptoms

These symptoms can indicate that stored toxins are being released and cells are now cleaner. Please continue reading for after care to know how to prevent this.

AFTER IV therapy, it is recommended to:

  • Avoid alcohol and allow your liver to recover from the detox.

  • Drink lots of water to flush things out.

  • If you have diarrhea, allow it to run its course. Do not take an anti-diarrheal.

  • If you have constipation, take high dose oral Vitamin C and Magnesium which can cause loose motion (a good thing here).

  • Take a magnesium salt bath. The magnesium can help draw out more toxins from your skin, speeding up the process of toxin extraction.

  • Intermittent fasting, gives your digestive system a break.

  • Be sure to let us know if you experience side effects, if any. They should pass and in the long run, you will have healthier cells but we want to walk you through it and stay in the know to err on the side of caution.

ON MEDICATIONS? While we will diligently review your medications for possible interactions, please help us in reviewing your medications and/or reaching out to your doctor prior to your appointment. Please refer to each individual IV Therapy (listed under Services) for a list of their ingredients.

Vitamin D is generally regarded as safe, however, there are blood pressure controlling and cholesterol reducing drugs that can interfere with the absorption of Vitamin D or cause hypercalcemia. Steroids can reduce calcium absorption and impair your body's processing of Vitamin D. If you are on any medications for weight loss such as Wegovy (or Semiglutide), please know that they can increase your heart rate and vitamins can affect their efficacy or increase possible side effects.

SKIN REJUVENATING:

PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin)

Avoid this treatment IF / WITH:

  • You have had facial surgeries/trauma within the last 8 weeks.

  • You have an active cold sore anywhere on the face.

  • Any use of Aspirin within the last two weeks (do NOT stop taking any prescribed anticoagulants for this procedure unless cleared by your prescribing practitioner).

Keep In Mind:

  • If you have a special event or vacation coming up, schedule your treatment at least 2 weeks in advance (we prefer 3-4).

  • If you have a history of Herpes (cold sores) we recommend that you pretreat with medication. **Please let us know if you need a prescription.

  • If you develop a fever, cold/flu, or rash in the area to be treated, or have been on the use of steroids, you must reschedule until symptoms resolve.

Pre-Treatment Instructions:

  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Drink at least 64 oz of water and eat a good snack before coming to prepare for the blood draw.

  • Take 2000 mg of Vitamin C daily before your treatment. The earlier you start, the better!

  • Avoid Omega 3s, Turmeric, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic Supplements for 7 days prior.

    • Also avoid alcohol, caffeine, and cigarettes for 5 days before and after your treatment (all of these may increase risk of bruising and efficacy of PRP). Smokers do not heal well, and problems recur earlier, and results may take longer.

  • To lessen your chance of irritation & redness, pause the use of Retinol & exfoliating acids 3 days before your treatment & for 3 days after.

Post-Treatment & Treatment Expectations:

  • You will most likely be bruised and/or swollen following this procedure. DON’T worry, the swelling will come down.

    • You may ice the eyes with eye-specific ice packs later in the evening, gently.

    • The treated area may look asymmetrical or uneven (especially in the tear troughs or lips) for up to 10 days following the procedure, this is normal.

    • The treated area may feel firm when touched, this is normal.

  • AVOID:

    • lotions, creams, or make-up for at least 8 hours after your treatment.

    • vigorous exercise, sun, and heat exposure for at least 5 days after your treatment

  • Continue to avoid Omega 3s, Turmeric, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic Supplements for 7 days. Remember, created inflammation so your body will heal itself and continue to repair and build. If you have discomfort, Tylenol is okay.

    • alcohol, caffeine, and cigarettes for 5 days before and after your treatment (all of these may increase risk of bruising and efficacy of PRP). Smokers do not heal well, and problems recur earlier, and results may take longer.

  • Usually, best results are seen with a series of 3-4 treatments, depending on each patient’s skin quality and goals.

  • PRF does not require “touch up” treatments as it is your own body’s natural collagen process that is working over the course of several weeks to months after treatment. If you would like the areas assessed or desire additional treatments this would be best discussed with your provider in person. We recommend in general that you wait at least 4 weeks after each PRF treatment for assessment and any additional treatments.

SKINCARE & RESURFACING:

Chemical Peels & Radio Frequency Microneedling

Pre-Treatment Instructions:

  • DO get started on medical grade skincare regimen prior to your treatment (we recommend 1-3 months prior). Medical grade skincare is developed to penetrate the skin more efficiently and offer better results; they are designed to provide you with maximum results, are clinically tested, and will help you get the most out of your invested aesthetic procedures. Proper skincare improves treatment safety and efficacy.

  • DO come to your appointment with no makeup, we will just have to wash it off.

  • DO bring something to do/read while you wait for your numbing agent to kick in (microneedling).

  • DO inform us if you have a history of cold sores around your mouth or on your face, we recommend antiviral therapy prior to treatment. (Valtrex or acyclovir 500 mg, twice a day for 1-2 days before and 3 days after treatment.)

  • DO inform us if you have keloids in the area to be treated, have sensitivity or allergies to metals, have a history of abnormal wound healing, or take anticoagulants (this applies to microneedling).

  • DO wait to have Microneedling if you have had other treatments. We recommend:

    • 4 Weeks after light or other radio frequency treatments

    • 6 Weeks after neurotoxin (though you can have Tox right after RFM, we recommend after the 3rd treatment)

    • 3 Months after facial dermabrasion, resurfacing, or deep chemical peels

    • 3 Months after any surgical procedure or until fully healed

    • 6 Months after dermal filler

    • 6 Months after the use of Accutane

    • 1 Year after face lift or eyelid surgery

  • DON'T use topical retinols 7 days prior to your appointment, or Glycolic or Salicylic Acid 3 days before treatment.

  • DON'T have laser hair removal, electrolysis, or waxing 7 days prior to treatment.

  • DON'T go sun tanning or use self-tanners for 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

  • DON'T use NSAID's or ibuprofen 3-7 days prior to your treatment.

  • DON'T proceed with Microneedling if you are pregnant, have a cardiac pacemaker, active implantable medal device, piercing in the treatment area, or have active conditions such as: cancer, treatment for cancer, active cold sores, psoriasis, eczema, or an immunosuppressed disease or are being treated with an immunosuppressing medication.

Post-Treatment Instructions:

  • Please use the provided post-care after your treatment.

  • AVOID direct sun exposure and over-heating for 7-14 days after your treatment. Please be diligent about using facial SPF.

  • Skin may appear red and swollen and have a mild sunburn sensation. This is a normal reaction. It can last from a few hours after treatment. Applying a cold compress for the first 24 hours will help minimize swelling.

  • Resume your usual skincare recommended 24 hours after treatment. Retinol use may resume 7-10 days post-treatment.

  • Subsequent treatments may be scheduled once healing is complete or 2 weeks after last peel and 4 weeks after last RFM.

Treatment Specific Notes:

  • Peel:

    • Your skin can feel itchy. You may take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) 25mg every 8 hours, or try an antihistamine such as Zyrtec. Benadryl may make you sleepier than usual. Peeling typically starts day 3 or 4 and lasts a couple days. Avoid picking!! Do not pull of the flaking skin. Let if fall off or use a healing serum to naturally allow it to slough off. Additionally, the amount of peeling does not reflect the efficacy of the peel.

  • Microneedling:

    • Post treatment redness will resolve in 1-2 days. Light flaking is not uncommon on day 3-4 but does not always happen.

    • Results of microneedling are not visualized for 4-6 weeks and multiple treatments will be necessary for ideal results.
